 Adventure Park

 Victoria’s 1st Waterpark

Reviewed by Rebecca Mason [January 2011]

Adventure Park is Victoria’s premier water playground located one hour south of Melbourne, or midway between Geelong & Queenscliff, OR, 5 minutes from BIG4 Bellarine.  Open 7 days a week between October & April Adventure Park is the perfect place to cool off in the sun.

With water play activities for all ages the park is fun for all the family.  Settle yourself in a lounge chair at Bonito’s Bay for the day and enjoy the convenience of the Bonito’s Bay for the older kids, Tiny Tots Splashzone for the younger kids, the Six Lane Aqua Racer and my favourite, the River Torrent Lazy River.   Take a break from Bonitos Bay and head over to chill out on the lake paddling a canoe, or peddling the paddle boats.  For more aqua fun, the older kids can try out the Tunnel of Terror and Rapid Rider waterslides.  While the older kids are on the slides, the younger children can hang out under the jumping jets or ride the carousel.

Other ‘dry activities’ include 2 courses of Mini Golf, Archery, Volleyball, Adult Jumping Castle, Moon Bikes, Train and for an extra fee the younger kids can try out the Electric Cars and the older kids the Go Karts.  There is plenty of shelter and picnic tables available – great for family reunions & birthday parties etc.

Adventure Park is quite costly at $34 over 1.2m, $28 under 1.2m & FREE for under 3 year olds.  It cost our family a whopping $238 and in 2 years time it will cost us $266 when Kobi is 3.  However, the children created lots of happy memories and Kynan, 4 years, was rather pleased with himself because he was tall enough to ride the Six Lane Aqua Racer and the River Torrent Lazy River.  Living within an hour and a half of Adventure Park we would consider taking the kids as a treat bi-annually.

POINTS TO NOTE

  • On the day you plan to go, get there early so you can gain prime position at Bonito’s Bay or BYO folding chair.  Gates open at 10am and visitor numbers are capped.  It wpuld be a good idea to pre-purchase your ticket by purchasing a gift voucher for yourself, hence giving you access to the VIP entry queue.
  • If you wish to play Mini Golf  and / or paddle the Canoes, Aqua Boats & Aqua Bikes, it might be an idea to reserve your chair at Bonito’s Bay and head down to the lake for these activities before the ‘peak hour’ emerges.
  • There is never a queue at Bonito’s Bay & Tiny Tots Splashzone as there is so much to do for everyone!
  • When on the River Torrent Lazy River, DON’T wear your sunglasses as I learnt the hard way!  I accidently flipped when getting in the tube and it wasn’t until halfway round the river I realised I’d lost my sunglasses.  It took me all day to retrieve them, which I must say the staff were very kind assuring me they would ‘eventually turn up’.  The whole family spent a good hour trying to locate them by going round and round the lazy river and through this experience found someone elses sunglasses and watch!
  • The Go Karts & Electric attract an extra fee of $6 for 5 minutes
  • The Mini Golf requires a 50 cent refundable deposit per golf ball
  • The Adult Jumping Castle is used largely by children and on the day we visited was dissappointly not pumped to its full capacity
  • There is usually a smaller queue for the Canoes than the Paddle Boats.  Ensure you choose the right size PFD for you and your children as the staff do not assist in the fitting of PFDs.
  • If you require your ‘little children’ to be accompanied on the Carousel you will need to sit in a swan as anyone UNDER 1.4m is not permitted to ride on a horse.
  • BYO lunch if you can.  Whilst there are food outlets at Adventure Park they are quite expensive and offer largely a menu of salty, fatty potato chips with a miniscule serving of either fish or chicken.
  • There are BBQ facilities available however there is a substantial fee attached to the hire of them
  • Lockers are available with a $10 fee.  It would be a good idea to bring in minimal valuables to avoid the use of the locker.
  • Consider pulling the kids out of school for one day and going ‘during school term’ as there are less crowds and less queues!
  • BE AWARE where your children are at all times!
