Corin Forest Mountain Recreation (Tuggeranong)

Corin Forest Mountain Recreation

Canberra’s Mountain Playground and great fun for all the family!

Whether you’re a Canberra local or a Canberra visitor, Corin Forest Mountain Recreation is a ‘must’ to visit!

During Summer take a picnic and enjoy the natural surroundings, take a ‘dip’ in the water via the giant waterslide, and enjoy unlimited rides on the bobsled.  During Winter, rug up, take a picnic to eat by the toasty open fire, ride the bobsled and admire the beauty surrounding this beautiful part of Australia.  If you are lucky enough – you may even see the lake iced over and find some snow.

The Bobsled is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and is 1.2km of exhilaration.  It’s easy to control and children of all ages will love it!  All bobsleds have dual seating.

The best value for the bigger kids is the all day bobsled / waterslide pass in Summer and the all day bobsled pass in Winter.  For the young families the 10 bobsled rides for $40 is the best value with kids 8+ able to control the bobsled and under 8 years able to ride with an adult or one of the bigger kids absolutely FREE!  So as a family, we all basically got 3 rides each.  Plenty for a young family, although the 2 older kids could probably go all day!

At Corin Forest the managers have thought of everything!  A toasty warm ‘fire’ to keep warm, a viewing area for the bobsled as well as a viewing platform set aside especially for nursing mothers, the elderly & the disabled.  Perfect!  Whilst the weather was quite ‘fresh’ the day we were there, the beginning of July 2009, we were quite suitably rugged up so enjoyed our stay thoroughly.  After our tobogganing adventures we ventured down to admire the lake which was starting to ‘ice over’, a beautiful sight to see.  We even found some small pieces of snow.  Equipped with a cafe & toasty open fire Corin Forest is a welcoming place to be.

Getting to Corin Forest is easy.  Corin Forest is located on Canberra’s Tourist Drive 5, off the Tidbinbilla Road, 12 kilometers up the Corin Road at Smokers Gap, 1200 meters above sea level.  Follow the signs and keep on going.  You will reach the Mountain Recreation eventually and it will have been worth the drive!

Make a day of it and do 3 in 1 – The Space Observatory, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Corin Forest Mountain Recreation.
