Keeping the children entertained on school holidays without sending you broke

cropped-familyvalue2j.jpgDo your research – many attractions now have websites, so before you venture on your outings, do your research and check out our attraction listings which all have links to the attractions website, if they have one.  If the attraction does not have a website, give them a ring and ask for more information.  Family Value is the perfect place to start with a large variety of attractions in all Australian States & Territories with detailed information.  No more getting a ‘shock’ at the price of entry before you get there.  Plan your day.

Free activities – there are activities in abundance that can be found for free!  You just need to find them.  Check out your local city websites and our calendar of events for more information.  Free activities include theatre, craft, music workshops, carnivals, church & charity holiday programs, community markets and so much more.

Annual / Family memberships – Zoos, Swimming Pools, Museums, Fun Parks, Skating Rinks and more will offer annual/family memberships.  Check out your favourite local attraction to check out what memberships they have to offer and make some huge savings.

Ask for a discount – always ask for a discount, particularly if you are a large family or with a group.  Attractions are usually willing to honour a discount as a token of goodwill.  Any saving is a good saving!

Take your own food – as we all know, take-away food can prove rather costly when having a day out, so take your own.  Freeze sandwiches the night before in a container &  pre-pack snacks in the backpack.   Ensure all family members have a water bottle and everyone should be satisfied.  Of course, sometimes a day out isn’t complete with ‘just one’ little treat, so perhaps promise the children an ice-cream and honour that promise midway through the day.

Parks, Playgrounds & Beaches – our cities and suburbs offer and abundance of wonderful adventuresome, educational, and ‘fun’ playgrounds so find a favourite and spend the day there.  Many of our parks, playgrounds & beaches have BBQ facilities, shelter and picnic areas.  So pack up the family and venture to some of our community playgrounds.

School Holiday Programs – popular attractions, party venues, church & charity organisations, dance studios & sporting clubs offer school holiday programs.  Check these out early as they are usually very popular and are booked out early.  Start by checking our calendar of events.

Holiday Camps – there are many organisations that offer holiday camps including Scripture Union, CYC, YMCA, Lions Club and many more.  Once again, these camps are usually very popular and booked out early so it’s best to check them out now.  Very good value.
